Business Need / Purpose of Role
Under the supervision of the Engineering Operations Manager or the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the design of Weir Minerals North America (WMNA) products considering functionality, cost and ease of manufacture in accordance with company policies and procedures. Create 3D models and assemblies from sketches, drawings, and other sources. Create detail drawings based on 3D models or 2D reference drawings or sketches. Produce detailed reports of changes to Engineering documents for use in the production of parts and assemblies. Use extensive knowledge of computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software. Draft and create routine to moderately complex detailed
drawings, sketches, and profiles.
Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
- Create detailed parts and assembly drawings for manufacturing and customers, ensuring accuracy and quality on a daily basis
- Prepare layouts for engineering approval to current department standards
- Design products requiring drawings and/or 3D models
- Assist Designers providing guidance and checking of design work on a daily basis
- Complete Drawing Revisions (DR) as required
- Incorporate part numbers and descriptions into the system
- Create and maintain product structure for new and existing products and reflect on the drawing
- Provide technical support to Operations and Sales and Marketing in a timely manner
- Research existing designs and product structures as reference materials for new design requests
Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused
attitude within and between departments
Keep Manager aware of pertinent issues and information warranting Manager’s knowledge, action and/or resolution
Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Equivalent of to two years of junior college or apprenticeship training, and/or 5 years equivalent work experience. Familiar or recurring work is assigned in general terms. Unfamiliar assignments include methods, procedures, sources of information, and precedence to follow. Simple
revisions to existing drawings may be assigned with a verbal explanation of desired results. More complex revisions are produced from sketches or specifications that clearly depict the desired product.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High level of competency in CAD systems: Siemens NX (preferred), ProEngineer, AutoCad or similar. Ability to manage projects and work to objectives. Comprehensive communication, motivation, human relations, and organization skills required. Must be able to work well with colleagues. Must have basic understanding of general engineering principles. Ability to create 2D and 3D component drawings. Practitioner of limits, fits, tolerances, and computer aided design.
Requires a valid driver’s license.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle and touch objects. The employee is occasionally required to talk, hear, reach, stand, or walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to ten pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Work is performed in inside nvironmental conditions. Moderate noise.
