Overall Job Objective

General Description

Positions in this classification perform varied public contact services, which may include customer service work, cash handling, staffing events and programs, routine labor and custodial work, light clerical duties, set up work, etc.

Hours: Hours may vary, 0 – 40 hours per week depending on demand and will require evening and weekend availability.

SEASONAL HIRING FOR WINTER ATTENDANT (35 VACANCIES)

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Winter Attendant-Parks Division
Greet and welcome the public. Answer and direct phone calls. Respond to requests regarding facility information, including hours of operation and policies, and skate lesson schedules. Rent equipment using rental process and forms. Sell concession items. Collect payments, handle cash and make change accurately. Count and maintain inventory using established checklist. Open and close facilities. Ensure facility maintains a clean and professional appearance.  Clean the concession area, restroom and public areas. Perform related duties as assigned.
HOURS:  Approximately 0-20 hours per week, including nights, weekends and holiday.  Shifts may vary dependent upon outdoor conditions. (Applicants 15 and up welcome to apply)

Madison Senior Center Attendant-Community Development Division
Open and close building for events. Set-up and tear-down tables and chairs. Assist renters/building users with questions, including equipment usage. Oversee front desk during events and answer incoming calls and questions from public. Perform routine cleaning and ensure correct setup for next day activities. If pertinent, contact Fire, Police, and/or Director to request assistance in emergency situations. Report event issues to Senior Center staff. Perform related work as assigned.
HOURS:Hours vary depending on demand. Approximately 6-10 hours per week; but can range from 0-20+ hours per week depending on building usage. Primarily nights and weekends hours between 4-9:30 p.m., weekend hours between 6 a.m.-12 a.m.

Golf Clubhouse Attendant - Parks Division
This position is responsible for facilities operation, primarily in the golf shop answering telephones, checking in guests for their tee times and managing the tee sheet.  This position will also be responsible for custodial labor, general upkeep of the facility as well as outside operations, picking the driving range, tending to golf carts and any on-course issues with a focus on customer care and satisfaction in all tasks performed at City of Madison's golf courses. Employees are responsible for the preparation of golf clubhouses and related amenities for operation which includes performing all custodial duties, collecting fees, recording sales into Point of Sale (POS) system. This position works under the direct leadership of the assistant Golf Professionals and general supervision of the Golf Clubhouse Operations Supervisor.
 

Special Event Attendant - Parks Division
This position is responsible for providing customer service, meeting and greeting customers, equipment set up and take down, and clean up of events.  Attendants must maintain a safe environment. Work involves a wide range of public contacts and activities performed in collaboration with city staff and with the general public.  Responsibilities may include cash handling, concession sales, and staff information booths. Work requires independent judgment and initiative and is performed under the direct supervision of the Madison Parks Recreation Services Coordinator. Duties may be performed at any of the Madison parks, facilities, or event sites. Perform other duties as assigned.
HOURS: This position will be approximately 0-15 hours per week and will include weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays.  Hours are intermittent and will vary based on the schedule of events, programs, and activities.

Gym Attendant-Warner Park Community Center
Establishing a positive, safe and fun environment for youth participating in open gym time. Develop relationships with youth, WPCRC members and staff. Enforce WPCRC policies and procedures for Behavior Management. Keep gym floor, bleachers, and storage room clean. Provide customer service, check locker rooms and bathrooms, patrol building activities, and assist with community programs and special events. Perform other duties as assigned. Work requires independent judgment and initiative and is performed under the supervision of the WPCRC Facility Manager.
HOURS: Hours vary depending on need. Approximately 0-15 hours per week. Monday through Thursday 3:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Friday 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturday 3:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.

Guest Services Attendant - Monona Terrace
Provide exceptional customer service. Deal tactfully and courteously with patrons, clients and other users of Monona Terrace. Enforce entrance, attendance, and building use policies and procedures in customer service oriented way. Deal effectively with complaints and difficult customers. Perform varied public contact services for events, meetings, conferences, conventions and other activities held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Attendants may be assigned to staff such functions as coat check, public information desk, badge checker, service desk and other related event services. Work with other Monona Terrace staff to ensure customer needs are being met. Perform routine cash handling and light clerical duties such as copying, collating, faxing and delivering messages. Perform activities either independently or as part of a team. Perform related work as required.
HOURS: Hours vary depending on events, and will mainly include weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to midnight and weekends anytime.  Hours vary from 0-20 hours per week as needed.  Working hours in any given week are not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications

All applicants will be considered for these positions. Depending on the number of applications, random selection may be used to determine who will proceed to the interview process.
